A behind the scenes look at Sue Dyde's contemporary artwork.

Looking at Sue Dyde's work, you might think that she's been a painter her whole life.

Her beautifully vibrant canvases bear all the trademarks of a seasoned artist. But, in fact, Sue began her career in jewellery design and transitioned into painting later in life.

She credits her move into painting to her daughter. "I went with her on a university placement to Balmain. Instead of twiddling my thumbs while she finished her studies, I picked up a paintbrush. I've found it hard to put down ever since!".

But how does a hobby turn into a successful full-time business?

For Sue, the turning point was entering six paintings in a local exhibition. "It turns out my contemporary art style was completely different from the other artworks shown, and so they were well received. I sold three paintings in that exhibition, and seven months later, I quit the jewellery industry to become a full-time artist".

Now she's living what most people consider the dream – getting paid to do what you love. Sue could not be more grateful: "I love painting, I'm in my happy place when I'm designing an artwork and can't believe that this is my full-time job!".

Sue's abstract paintings are created using a mixture of mediums, painted onto high quality stretched canvas. They're then finished with an oil-based lacquer for protection and framed with natural hardwood timber float frames. Each artwork is an original one of a kind and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
