An inside look at the inspiration behind From Me to You Ceramics

From Me To You Ceramics is the work of Jenny Harris, a ceramicist based in country NSW.

Inspired by nature and the Australian bush, Jenny’s inspiration is all around her.

She lives with her husband, daughter and their dogs, cats and horses on a 100-acre property near beautiful Gundaroo in The Southern Tablelands of NSW.

Having lived there for over 20 years, Jenny has developed a large and beautiful country garden on the property. She draws much of her inspiration from her surroundings. “I have always loved being outdoors, whether it was riding horses, bushwalking, travelling or just gardening,” says Jenny. And this love of the outdoors is evident in her range of ceramics.

Her range of jewellery and accessories features stunning floral accents and designs. Her homewares collection - which includes bowls, vases, and vessels - all feature leaf imprints or whispers of a natural element, whether that’s through colour choice or design.

Creating these works is a joy for Jenny.

“I fell in love with clay in 2010 when attending a short course in Canberra, and I wanted to learn more. I then studied Ceramics at the Australian National University School of Art, graduating in 2013. From Me To You Ceramics was born after that, and I haven’t looked back,” she says.

All From Me To You pieces are handmade in Jenny’s Gundaroo studio, using an Australian creamy, white porcelain clay. The Botanical range is glazed on the inside to show off the intricate leaf imprints. The outside is left unglazed, then sanded to produce a smooth satin finish.

All the colour choices and glaze effects are custom made too. “All glazes used in my work are my very own personally created recipes, inspired by my natural surrounds. All the colours have been developed to complement each other,” says Jenny.

Knowing that so much thought and consideration is put into every detail makes these works even more special.

And each piece is special to Jenny too. “Every piece is inherently unique, showcasing its colour, texture and form,” she says. And she’ll never tire of the process. “Being able to simply transform mud into a ceramic item that will be appreciated and can be used daily is incredible,” she says.

“It is my hope that you enjoy my work as much as I enjoyed making it,” says Jenny.
